Jacobs - .278, 12 HR, 48 RBI, on a horrible team that doesnt score much, 25 years old, makes no money

Delgado - .252, 22 HR, 56 RBI, on a great offensive team, 34 years old, makes LOTS of money

AND Jacobs has 40 less at-bats...take your pick

so basically Jacobs just has a little less power than Delgado but hits for a higher average which would probably lead to more runs on the Mets with Wright and Floyd and Nady behind him. could have spent that money on a starter...

Have you ever stopped to wonder as to why it says "board bitch" under your name?

.278, 48 RBIs in 40 less at-bats = .278, 55 RBIs if he had as many at-bats as Delgado. thats 25 points higher in average, SAME RBIs on a bad team. yea, great trade. and hes 25 years old, the power will come with age

Delgado has been kind've disappointing, but I think/hope he's going to pick it up in the second half. Delgado has more homers, but Jacobs has 10 more doubles. They've both performed pretty poorly at home.

I'd say they've been pretty even this year, Delgado was pretty poor in May and Jacobs started off pretty slow. I think Delgado will widen the gap when the year ends though.

And I know someone is going to counter with, "Look what Beltran's done this year because of Delgado!". Beltran was a very good hitter long before Carlos Delgado was ever in the same lineup with him. Has his friendship had an impact? Yea, probably. Not enough to make up for Delgado's disappointing performance up to this point though.

Are you going to start one of these threads everytime Jacobs hits a HR?

If you can't see Delgado's value beyond just the numbers, than I don't know what to tell you.

22 homers and 55 rbis at the break, not terrible for a "bad" first half, along with leadership that Jacobs could not provide

you are not paying delgado all that money for his leadership, you are paying him for his numbers. if jacobs puts up better numbers this year than delgado, there are no 2 ways around it, the trade did not work out. if they were making the same money then fine, give me the leadership. but they are not and that money could have gone elsewhere. delgado needs to put up MUCH better numbers than Jacobs, dont be blind.

I definitely see it, I just don't think it's enough to make up for his disappointing numbers to this point. The clubhouse stuff is nice, but you still need to perform on the field.

I don't think the Mets were expecting Delgado to be 8th in OPS in the NL amongst 1B when they traded Jacobs and Petit for him. They're paying him a nice chunk of change too. He's got to do better in the 2nd half, and I think he will.

actually Delgado's leadership is a huge part of why he is getting paid so much money.. just like Julio Franco gettng a 2 year contract has a lot to do with his leadership... it is an aspect of his game that many around baseball do not have.

it is only about numbers

Hmmm.

2003
Tom Glavine (4.52 ERA; disappointment. 3.60 ERA following year)

2005
Beltran .744 OPS big disappointment. .995 OPS currently.

2006
Delgado .857 OPS disappointment.
Wagner 18 of 22, disappointment.

He had a bad slump in may and he's been streaky throughout his career. He'll bounce back and post his usual numbers.

In 2004 his numbers looked like this before the break
.223avg .325obp .421slg .746ops

after the break?
.305avg .408obp .625slg 1.033ops

I'm not worried about Delgado.

Come on, flyers is making a legit point.

If you said before the year you'd be happy with Delgado putting up a line .252/.344/.513, you're a damn liar. The guy did .301/.399/.582 and .269/.372/.535 the 2 years before. He needs to start hitting better at home too.

I know they're in 1st place by a country mile, but it's still fair to criticize guys.

If ends up hitting .250 with a .850ops at the end of the season, I would be disappointed but I don't expect to finish with that line. He had a bad month, simple as that.

lets keep things in perspective here. If before the season you were told that he would hit over 40 hr and have over 100 rbis would you be happy?
If you take into account his career #s his tendency to slump pre all star game , AND its his 1st year at shea, I'm quite happy with him.

oh yes and one other stat for you
12 game lead in the NL east
