I wanted the Mets to trade for Soriano a few years back, but only if it did not cost us Reyes.

I also wanted to re-sign Ricky Bottalico.

This isn't a mistake, but I'm pretty sure Jose Parra and Orber Moreno are rolled up in carpets somewhere. Has anyone filed a missing persons report?

Moreno has a great ERA in AAA Memphis (St. Louis farm team).

no idea on Parra.

I believe Parra went to Japan or something.

I loved the Roberto Alomar trade (I even bought his bobblehead doll, meh)...and I was all about Junior Griffey coming here as well

I though Robinson Cano's strong 05 season was rookie luck and a by-product of being in the Yankee lineup.

Apparently I was way off.

You're better than me because I still won't admit he is good with such an awful IsoD. I've never seen a player keep up an average like his was this year over a long period without improving that discipline.

I like this thread.

Guilty on Cano also.

I take solace in the fact that over in Yankee land, there are an equal number of people saying the same about Reyes. It was hypocritical on both sides to be knocking one young guy's plate discipline while at the same time defending a player on your team with an identical problem.

I wanted J.D. Drew two years ago also.

I came to the realization the other day that my reliance on old players in my sim league has been Brian Sabean-esque. I'm sorting free agents by age this year.

His IsoD will likely go up a decent amount like Reyes did (.01-.04). The BA will likely go down a lot. I think Cano's OBP ends up in the .340-.350 range. Similar to Reyes in that aspect, but he doesn't steal bases.

I wanted to trade Reyes for Soriano because I thought Reyes was injury prone.

Not that Soriano wasn't a monster this year, but it was a dumb idea.

I thought, and publically claimed, that Matt Peterson would end up with a better Major League career than Scott Jesus. I was PISSED that the Metds traded Peterson. Jesus I always thought was an injury waiting to happen and had a bad attitude. And I remembered Victor Zambrano dominating hte Yankees earlier that season, both in Japan and at Yankee Stadium and I LOVED that trade. I even defended Zambrano up until last season when I finally gave up on him.

* I loved Danny Garcia.

* I really wanted Dougie Webgem to play first.

* I thought Jeff Duncan would be a poor man's Andy Van Slyke.

* At one point, I may have thought Dave Mlicki was good.

* I thought Dave Magadan was the next Wade Boggs.

* I didn't like the Hojo for Walt Terrell trade.

* At the time, I thought Todd Hundley moving into the outfield didn't seem like a bad idea.

* I thought Mackey Sasser would be an all-star.

* I used to defend Carlos Baerga.

There's more....a lot more. Some of it involving Dan Norman and Mike Vail, which I won't discuss.

Maybe there should be a "toot your own horn" thread? For what you were right on?

* One night I had the ear of a Mets scout down at a game in St. Lucie, and I begged him to look into Josh Bard, who was backing up for the Indians and hitting .178 at the time. I actually swayed the guy a bit, and I saw him last year, and he was like, "hey....you were the guy who busted my balls about Josh Bard!" I thought that was kind of funny. He was actually interested in why I was so adament about him, and I told him I had seen him play a lot a few years back in the minors, and always thought he was a good player. And I love switch hitting catchers. I like Castro, but Bard would be great to have.

* I was FURIOUS when they traded Jason Bay. I mean really pissed. I watched him play quite a bit in St. Lucie and thought he was an absolute stud who just needed some playing time. Those guys that grow up in the cold weather sometimes just take a bit longer. I still remember reading it way back in the bottom of the sports wire, and screaming out "they did WHAT?" in the middle of a Wendy's. All the reports had only said they traded a "minor leaguer" to San Diego in the trade.

* Back to Todd Hundley...even when he came up and struggled, I always knew he'd be a good player.

* I supported the David Cone trade because I really liked Jeff Kent.

* I never liked Alex Ochoa.

* Don't know if this counts, but my dad was really mad when they traded away Nolan Ryan, Ken Singleton, and especially....Amos Otis. Y'all have any idea what kind of team they could have had in the seventies with those guys?

I loved the Alomar trade too, and looking back, it's STILL a trade we:
a) make again.
b) got the better end of the deal on.

THEY GOT:
Jerrod Riggan: 39 IP, 7.78 ERA
Billy Traber: 167 IP, 5.28 ERA

WE GOT:
Mike Bacsik: 121 IP, 4.76 ERA

We win that part.

THEY GOT:
Earl Snyder: .203 BA in 19 MLB games.

WE GOT:
Danny Peoples: never made the bigs

whoop.

THEY GOT:
Matt Lawton: .241 BA, 30 HR, .343 OBP next two years in CLE
Alex Escobar: .235 BA, 6 HR .321 OBP in 107 games with CLE

WE GOT:
Roberto Alomar: .259 BA, 16 HR, .333 OBP next year and a half with Mets.

They win slightly... except for the fact that that's about an average MLB production from a 2B; and BAD for an outfielder.

Remember the old Petition that was on the Net for the Mets to resign Piazza... I refused to sign that, I thought Hundley would be fine
