Anyone ever hear this guys calls on WFAN overnight?

This man should be a national treasure... He seems to be very old, and has memories of dodgers and giants game that are crystal clear... he is absolutely amazing... he can remember stats and games from the 50's and 60's incredibly clear, and has an endless list of funny/interesting stories... He also is a diehard Mets fan...

He's still sharp as hell, and knows whats going on in todays games... I could listen to that guy talk for hours, its too bad he only gets a minute and a half Sad

I believe he recently said he had a very serious problem, or heart attack, and the guy is so cool, that he even talked lightheartedly about how he was seeing "the light" they talk about when dying... unfortunatly he was serious...

I wonder if anyone else hears this guys call? I wish he would get some kind of recognition or something...

I think I know who you are talking about. Is he the one Sommers thinks has an almanac in front of him?

but redx you are thinking of bill the baker, who steve sommers always says has a baseball almanac in front of him when he busts out stats from players of the 50's or earlier

the ONLY think i dont like about Sommers is he always tries to out-do the callers sometimes, instead of just giving props to guys for having good stuff he kind of writes them off.... he can be very awkward with them sometimes.

schmooz is the best. hes easy to listen to, personally, because hes a mets, rangers, and knicks fan. im pretty sure hes a jets fan too. hes also jewish, says old jewish phrases, hes funny, and he lets callers speak.

random, but i remember one night i was listening, it was the night beltran hit the walk off against the phillies, and some guy calls up and goes "hey steve." sommers says hello jon, how are you? what do you wanna talk about? "uhh well i dont really like sports too much, i just wanted to call and talk to you again" sommers is confused, but he doesnt hang up, he keeps going. says oh, so you dont like any sports? "uhh not really. i just like nascar kinda, gripping the wheel of the car is real fun" sommers says where are you? are you ok? "uh yeah im in a parking lot, no one is here." no one really knows what trasnpired with that guy, but sommers doesnt cut people off. ive been on his show a couple times, he gives good answers, and he puts it in perspective.

Short Al is the best a great all-time WFAN caller. I've heard him over 10+ years ago when Somers was Captain Midnight. Somers had definitely lost his edge, I blame that on Russ Salsburg who obviously rubbed his crappiness off on Somers.
