HOJO: I AM William Wallace!

LEGIONS: My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius, commander of the Armies of the North, General of the Felix Legions, loyal servant to the true emperor, Marcus Aurelius. Father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife. And I will have my vengeance, in this life or the next.

HOJO: Are you ready for a war?

LEGIONS: I am required to kill, so I kill.

HOJO: I see a whole army of my country men, here, in defiance of tyranny. You've come to fight as free men, and free men you are.

LEGIONS: Five thousand of my men are out there in the freezing mud. Three thousand of them are bloodied and cleaved. Two thousand will never leave this place. I will not believe they fought and died for nothing.

HOJO: It's all for nothing if you don't have freedom.

LEGIONS: At my signal, unleash hell.

HOJO: FREEEEE-DOMMMMMM!!!!!!!!

#5 - Pedro is a lock for the Hall of Fame and his career is near an end.

I'm with Phunk on this: Pedro needs to say "Skip, I'm not at my best, you know I have a torn calf, but I'll try."

And Willie needs to have a plan for if Pedro sucks.

If Pedro sucks, Willie pulls him, we accept it as bad luck (LIKE WE DID WITH THE DIRTY INJURY). and move on, hoping Oliver, Maine, etc can do the job.

If Pedro is effective, happy fucking days.

Pedro needs to [CENSORED] it up. Pedro needs to step up.
Willie needs to step up.
Hell, David Wright needs to [CENSORED] it up. He's sucked versus lefties since the All-Star break, and we need him to carry us vs lefties.

It's the playoffs. Mother fucking everyone needs to step up. Even Jay Horowitz has to have the best month of his life. This is the playoffs. Fucking DELIVER.

If you're alive, you should be arguing with Willie that you should play. If you DON'T want to play in the playoffs. On THIS team. Get the [CENSORED] out. Plain and simple.

Pedro's done for the playoffs

I guess Pedro could volunteer to pitch through his injury. But if I'm Willie I wouldn't take the risk of starting him or using him out of the pen in a close game. I'd even start Trachsel over an injured Pedro and I'm anything but a Trachsel fan this year.

We pay Pedro to pitch.
We pay Willie to manage.
We pay relievers to bail out starters.

It's Willie's job to decide what our best chance of winning is. If Willie shut down Pedro, that's fine. If Wille doesn't start Pedro, that's fine. If Willie pulls Pedro because he's giving up too many hits, fine.

But I want our ace to say "Give me the fucking ball, if I'm alive, I want to pitch."

He could theoretically get a start. If he goes game 3, Maine can hop in at the first sign of trouble.

I personally don't think he will be able to pitch, but it is worth the gamble if well managed.

As long as Pedro is truthful about what is bothering him and says I want to pitch through it, I have no problem with that and having Willie make the call.

What I don't like is when players try to hide their injuries from their managers and end up hurting the team as result. But this is not the case here.

I hadn't realized that the injury announced today was the other calf from the one that he has been nursing:

Maybe I don't understand baseball enough, but why don't the Mets tell Maine to be ready to pitch game 3, but he'll be starting the 4th inning. Pedro goes through the lineup once. Nine outs, that's all we're looking for and then Maine can take two trips through the lineup before the pen takes over.

Hindsight it 20/20.

It looks like Pedro should have shut it down earlier in the year and kept it down until he was ready. Or perhaps it is just bad luck that while he was getting ready he ripped the calf muscle. IMHO he knew he was done for the year in Pittsburgh - that's what brought on the tears. Pedro's fully aware of the the extra 10K of fans at Shea everytime he pitches. He's fully aware of his position in the rebirth of the Mets because that's why he signed. Not for just the cash, but to be THE GUY. He loves the attention, and he hated Boston's management for bringing in Schilling and showering the "great self-promoter" with adulation of savior.

So for him to step down....that's gotta to be killing him.

I feel for the guy, and pray he can get healthy for a WS appearance.

What up, JP, I hope all is well.

I usually agree with you, but this time I can't. I don't see the sense in our ace telling Willie "if I'm alive I want to pitch." just so he ends up looking like some big, tough, hombre.

We all know in his heart that's exactly what he's thinking. But his head is telling him otherwise _ rightfully so.

Leadership isn't always being the toughest guy around. It's being honest. If he tells Willie he wants the ball, how is Willie supposed to take it other than his ace is telling him he's fit enough to take the ball?

Then he sends an injured players out there, he sucks, and now we're at a major disadvantage.

The right thing to do is be straight up. "Hey Skip, I can't go. I can't help you. In fact I am hurting you.''

Furthermore, there are 24 other guys in that clubhouse who have worked there asses off this year. They deserve the truth from Pedro, especially when anything less might seriously jeapordize everything they worked so hard for this year.

I respect Pedro A HELL OF ALOT MORE for saying he's too inured to contribute in the post season than I would if he demanded the ball and and got his ass handed to him like he did the other night.

Nothing would be better than Pedro demanding the ball and then going out and pitching a good game that we win. NOTHING.

But this is reality, not fantasy.
