Ok, read thru page 10 before posting.

#1 - Pedro is hurt with a torn calf muscle.

#2 - Pedro is going to be less than effective with a torn calf muscle.

#3 - Pedro is 33 years old with a guaranteed contract for the next two years.

#4 - It's the manager's job to decide "a pitcher from my bullpen would be a better option than my current starter."

#5 - Pedro is a lock for the Hall of Fame and his career is near an end.

I'm with Phunk on this: Pedro needs to say "Skip, I'm not at my best, you know I have a torn calf, but I'll try."

And Willie needs to have a plan for if Pedro sucks.

If Pedro sucks, Willie pulls him, we accept it as bad luck (LIKE WE DID WITH THE DIRTY INJURY). and move on, hoping Oliver, Maine, etc can do the job.

If Pedro is effective, happy fucking days.

Pedro needs to [CENSORED] it up. Pedro needs to step up.
Willie needs to step up.
Hell, David Wright needs to [CENSORED] it up. He's sucked versus lefties since the All-Star break, and we need him to carry us vs lefties.

It's the playoffs. Mother fucking everyone needs to step up. Even Jay Horowitz has to have the best month of his life. This is the playoffs. Fucking DELIVER.

If you're alive, you should be arguing with Willie that you should play. If you DON'T want to play in the playoffs. On THIS team. Get the [CENSORED] out. Plain and simple.

Wow, people are really smoking the playoff pipe these days.

Shilling is a self-promoting asshole who'd be hated in every lockerroom he's been in. I wouldn't be surprised to find out he wiped blood on the damn sock in the lockerrom before each game.

If I though Pedro was being a pussy, I'd be all over him, but seeing him breakdown in Pittsburgh told me that he's done for this year. I told the guys I was watch the game with that the only reason he brokedown like that was because he knew he couldn't pitch anymore this season. I was hoping we could get one trip through the lineup with him, and maybe that could still happen, but even the 1st trip through the Braves lineup he was hit hard.

By the way, in light of Pedro's new health issues...

THIS is exactly what I meant by him sucking it up:

Obviously if Pedro's got a bad hip, bad toe, bad rotator cuff, etc, he's not going to be effective.

Pedro is looking at a wasted 2007 and hopefully a rebound 2008. Then is contract is up.

He could go John Franco style and try to come back in a lesser role with reconstructed body and prove he can pitch. But Pedro is most likely DONE being Pedro.

It will be sad to see Pedro pitching when he's not Pedro anymore. He ALWAYS has been compared to Koufax, in the sense that he had a string of dominant years. Most pitchers do get hurt and hang around as shells of their former selves, but Pedro always had that aura of being one who'd go out on top.

He said himself, he's got no problem going back home, sitting under a mango tree and reflecting on his great career and being remembered as one of the greatest of all time.... rather than go Leiter or Franco or David Cone.

My whole point on "he should [CENSORED] it up" was "If he shuts it down, rehabs, and comes back, he'll no longer be Pedro. So he might as well empty the tank this post season if he's able.

He'd be better off saying "This might be the end of my career, but I'm ending on my terms. Here's EVERYTHING I got left, I'm pouring it all towards a championship now." then getting offseason surgeries, and either missing 2007, giving it a shot in spring training in 2008....or just hanging it up. He's not getting a big contract for 2009, and no one wants to see him linger on in 08 as a fourth starter. We always thought he'd go out in a blaze of glory, retire too soon rather than too late.

About the calf, yes.

About a TORN TENDON in his calf AND a rotator cuff with his toe and hip? Hell no.
