If he doesn't, he can go [CENSORED] himself.

If he cannot contribute to the team this post season, is he not welcome back on the team next year?

I said sometime around May of this year that Pedro doesn't have to throw 1 more pitch for the Mets, ever, to justify the 4 year contract we gave him. Anyone who feels otherwise I just can't understand.

This is the time for Pedro to hold up his end of the bargain.

Why doesn't Pedro have to throw one more pitch to justify his contract? Cause he had one good year? Big fucking deal. This is when we need him. [CENSORED] it up. Then you can be a a #3 pitcher next season and retire soon after.

I'm really dissapointed in him. Hurt or not, it's the freakin playoffs.

That's just silly. I was opposed to signing him for the 4 year deal even before the ink was dry for this very reason. I said he was a DL trip waiting to happen at best and a severe career risk at worst and that the Mets would be lucky to get even 2 "Pedro-type" seasons out of him. However, now is not the time to say "I told ya' so." I was hoping to save that for an offseason discussion. Now is the time to figure out how the Mets can best scrap their way through the NLDS and NLCS.

Pedro got the ball rolling and added the needed credibility and excitment the resulted in Beltran, Delgado, and Wagner.

Can you explain this? Do you mean because signing Pedro allowed us to get Beltran and become a legit contender in other ways? You can't possibly believe his performance with the Mets has earned his contract.

I don't think you can talk about him earning his contract after this year, anymore than you could after last year. He hurt his leg, that sucks but as long as he's trying you can't kill the guy. Saying he should just [CENSORED] it up is stupid.

When we signed him to the 4 year deal I figured we'd get 2 good years, 1 year of mediocrity, and then he'd be a bullpen arm by the 4th year. Looks like that 1 year of mediocrity came in year 2 instead of year 3 like I though. Hopefully he can rebound with a solid season next year, but I wouldnt expect it.

Without the Pedro signing we don't sign Beltran. If you believe he was signing for the most money no matter what, I'm sorry, but I can't take you seriously. Without the success that Pedro helped us achieve last year we are not in the position to add the missing pieces of Delgado and Wagner this past offseaosn to go for it all this year. Sure we'd still have Wright and Reyes. And we'd probably have signed some lesser free agents to fill the holes we had. I don't believe for a second the team we have right now would be even close to the team it is had we not signed Pedro Martinez when we did. And I also have a hard time believing that the Fernando's and Delois' of the world are as excited to sign that contract with the Mets as they are had it not been for the strong DR influence that began the day we signed Pedro Martinez.

So please, go ahead and whine about how we're paying Pedro whatever it will be we're paying him in 2008 when he's relegared to the role that Darren Oliver now has. I will be sitting here laughing at you.

Yup. And by an amazing coincidence, the Mets also happened to make each of them the highest contract offers on the market. But I wouldn't read anything into that. Like I said, I'm sure it was just a coincidence.

I never felt that he had to "earn his contract" on the field for the entire length of the contract.

Yes just like with Vlad, we offered him the most and he ran like the devil was after him to LA. Pedro signed with a 90+ loss team and immediately turned it into a 83 win team. Then Wagner decided he wanted to go to the playoffs before he died

Who is talking about the entire length of his contract? I'm talking about 3 or 4 more starts and then he can take the rest of life off and sit under a fucking mango tree.

He does not get a pass.

Yeah I agree. Although I can't freakin stand when prez start every post talking about his post history - this post was uncalled for and will be erased now.

Thanks for the clarification. That seems reasonable to me and is consistent with your expectations upon his signing.

Absolutely agree, prez. We were lucky to get what we got out of him to date. I said at the time it was a highly risky move. We got one solid year (where we didn't make the show) and April and May out of him this year. Since mid May he was been less than mediocre.

I hope he rebounds and is a factor next year. But obviously we were the only team that thought he had four years left, including the Red Sox.

And, I'm sorry, anyone who says it was worth it for a "PR" boost needs to get spooned by Screech.
