New York Mets (2-0) at Los Angeles Dodgers (0-2)
Sat., October 7 @ 7:30 p.m. ET

Pitching matchup:
NYM: Trachsel (15-8, 4.97 ERA)
The disintegration of Pedro Martinez's season has eliminated the question the Mets did not want to address -- whether their leading winner, Trachsel, would be excluded from the NLDS rotation and even the roster. Trachsel and the ERA some consider alarmingly high, 4.97 -- are in. The Met of longest standing, six seasons, is without postseason history. But he did pitch the Cubs into the playoffs in 1998 in a one-game playoff against the Giants. As much as any pitcher, when he's good, he's very good -- see the clincher last month. And when he's not, he clearly is not. Trachsel was never named a definite for the Game 3 start, and a personal issue that kept him from his final start of the season, has left his availability for Game 3 as an issue.

LAD: Maddux (15-14, 4.20)
Maddux responded to being plugged into the playoff race following his trade from the Cubs, as he went six-plus innings and allowed two runs or fewer in six outings for the Dodgers. The veteran right-hander went 8-5 with a 3.88 ERA after the All-Star break, including a 6-3 mark and 3.30 ERA in 12 starts for the Dodgers. He was 1-2 with a 7.36 ERA in three starts against the Mets in 2006. Maddux had a 3.22 ERA in 29 postseason starts for the Braves. In 11 career Division Series appearances (10 starts), he is 5-3 with a 3.14 ERA.

Player to watch:
David Wright has hit in 14 straight games (including a 12-game batting streak to end the regular season)...Wright is hitting .364 (20-55) with nine RBI during that stretch.

Lineups:
TBA

The New York Mets are coming home as NLDS Champions.

Applause

I respect that your putting your flawless record on the line in a potential game that isn't a must-win, very gutsy...

Jules: I don't wanna hear about no motherfuckin' ifs. All I wanna hear from your ass is, You ain't got no problem, Jules. I'm on the motherfucker. The Mets are gonna win tonight. Go back in there, chill them niggers out and wait for the calvary which should be coming directly.

Marsellus: You ain't got no problem, Jules. I'm on the motherfucker. The Mets are gonna win tonight. Go back in there, chill them niggers out and wait for JD who should be coming directly.

Jules: You sendin' JD?

Marsellus: Oh, you feel better, motherfucker?

Jules: Shit, Negro, that's all you had to say!

Some news..

Nomar
--John Delcos of the Journal News is reporting at his blog that Nomar is done for the series and will require surgery for his torn left quad...

Traschel:
-“No, we had a conversation about that while I was gone, when I'd come back. I mean, I told Willie, even before we started, because there was a lot of questions about whether I would start or what. And I said, "Look, this is the postseason, this isn't about Steve Trachsel, this is about the Mets getting to the World Series. And whatever it is that you guys want me to do, I'm going to do." And that would have included the bullpen. I would have done whatever. And Willie said, "No, we want to you start." We talked about game four, Game 3. We weren't sure…

“And I came back. I threw my bullpen, I felt great. I was planning to throw one the next day. And Willie came out to the outfield and we were talking and he's like, you know, "I really think you should take the ball Game 3." And I said, "Okay, if that's what you want, that's what I'll be ready to do." And that's been pretty much been my preparation.”
