The Cubs bid against themselves as it is for Soriano

I think there are alot of teams that can and are willing to give Sorriano what would have been a "reasonable" contract in past years, it pushes everything up. and that dynamic is not gonna change anytime soon

It comes in waves. Manny got 20 a year in 2000, and a few years later Vlad got 14.

Yeah like when the 96 Yankees got Duncan, Raines and Hayes

What up, Bphunk, hope all is well.

I disagree about El Duque. By the time all this gets sorted our he'll be our No. 4 starter. That's a pretty damned good No. 4 starter right there. Not to mention we have a bunch on young guys sitting there behind him totally on the cusp, and these are guys who will benefit from having a gamer like El Duque to learn from.

I'll take 2 years of El Duque at 6 over however many of Padilla at 10+

The funny thing about all worries for the 2007 offense? It's pretty much based around the fact that to a man every Mets fan sees Green as a .190 hitter. Floyd is probably one of my favorite Mets of all time, but Alou will certainly do more for us than he did last year, and Green should be able to at least give the production Nady did. Everyone's memory of Nady is clouded by a few power spurts and the fact that he was young, remember how he couldn't hit with RISP and was almost as much of a DP machine as Green? I liked Nady too, but I'm happy with trading him for the guy who will become THE BEST PITCHER IN THE HISTORY OF BASEBALL (optimist!).

Ben Johnson probably won't be as good as Nady, but it'd be pretty awesome if he turned into Jason Bay. Neither him or Nady were exactly known for putting the bat on the ball, but everyone who ever saw Nady knew that he had tremendous power potential. Not the same deal with Johnson. But even still.

Reyes - Will be just as good, should keep getting better (wow)

Lo Duca - Even if is batting average falls a whopping 30 points, he'll be hitting over .280, fine out of the #2 slot.

Beltran - Had a great year, but he didn't even round it out. No reason to think he shouldn't have another great year in his prime.

Delgado - His numbers were down last year in terms of batting average. Wouldn't be surprised to see him hit for a little higher average. Even in worst case scenario, he can't fall too much from last year.

Wright - We forget that he's still a kid too. Had an awful second half in which he still had a great BA. Alou behind him. He WILL have a more consistent year.

Alou - Simply better than Floyd. Chavez.

Green - Get over it, he's going to be on the team and we're not going to love him, but this isn't a huge downgrade over going into a season with X. Johnson or Milledge should have every opportunity to take his playing time away if they're worth anything.

Pornstache - Assuming he does stay at 2nd base full time, he's probably not going to be as productive as last year, but that's still a lot of pop out of your 8th hole. Again, only reason this looks bad is because we all hate Green who is infront of him.

So I fail to see how this NOT YET FULLY CONSTRUCTED offense is so much worse than last year.

What makes me happiest this offseason is watching the Phillies fall flat on their face. Soriano, Lee, Wolf... watch'em go.

It's funny you mentions homers, because the only homer i've come across so far

is YOU.

I see you still have no solutions to offer up?

What are these 5 holes we have to fill in 08????

what happened to next years FA crop of players?
Are we not allowed to sign anyone?
And what about our prospects?
I know some people overvalue them, but some people undervalue them too. David Wright and Jose Reyes used to be prospects too.

I know none of us are used to this whole winning thing, and its hard to grasp. But its here, so why not enjoy it? It isn't gonna last forever. Especially if we go and hand out 18 million per/8 year contracts to 31 year olds coming off of career years.

See this offseason was supposed to be about finding players to fill in for the season following the upcoming one

I think he was being sarcastic.

We are gonna be real old with Milledge/Gomez/F-Mart in our outfield by 09. That fills those holes. Then at 2B we can get someone next season by trade or FA. Same with 1B and C. We dont have to fill every hole this year. And just because we used stopgaps this year doesnt mean thats what we will do next season. We used a stopgap in LF because we need more time for our prospects to grow in MLB players. What dont you get about that?????

Sometimes I wonder why guys even bother to call them selves mets fans. Its obvious they truly want the team to fail, considering thats all they talk about. Quite sad really.

EVER.

He's still crying over Soriano.

You know how babies sort of tire themselves out crying and fall to sleep? This guy will do the same at some point.

I don't think he's even a Mets fan.
