our success in the playoffs will in no way, shape, or form be determined by changing who bats number 2, nor will loduca harm us in any meaningful way batting in the two hole. he is batting .300. honestly, it's time to shut the [CENSORED] up.

My second half vow is not to get upset when people start nitpicking at Willie or Duke.

We've got the best team in the N.L., that's all I care about. And only an idiot can't see both of those guys _ and every other guy on the 25-man roster, the rest of the coaching staff and the front office _ can step up and take their piece of credit for us being where we are right now.

Because this has been a total team effort. And I love that about the two thousand and fucking six fucking Mets.

Yeah, we may not have all those sparkling individual numbers in all those OBP and OPS columns but you know what? You add all our numbers up and it totals up to 53-36.

Somehow, someway, the pieces fucking fit pretty good on this club.

What more can you really ask for?

And I love the guy who said "besides hitting .300 with 30 RBI and a .341 OBP AND A .409 slugging percentage and striking out just 18 times while hitting 21 doubles, Lo Duca is pretty much giving us the same exact thing Miguel Cairo gave us last year."

Um, we ARE talking about the same Cairo who hit .251 with 19 RBI and a .295 OBP and a .314 slugging percentage with 31 strikeouts and 18 doubles ALL of last year???"

It's that Cairo, right?

I will say leadership and team chemistry are undervalued and do help as well, but a team is nothing without the numbers.

did you find a lineup tool that would tell you how many runs per game a lineup would score if you plugged it in?

Thats why I can't really take any lineup you post seriously. Laughing Beltran leadoff? Very Happy

The issue I have with these lineup tools is they don't take into account the intangiables. The fact that Reyes never steals on early counts (for instance).

I've been touting Beltran leadoff since we got him. Hell, my bookmark of the argument is gone from the ESPN board it's been so long. Best I can do:

I think there's an easy compromise between stat-generated lineup order and common sense:

1. Reyes (duh)
2. Beltran
3. Delgado (his stats should go up anyway)
4. Wright
5. Floyd
6. Porn
7. LoDuca
8. Nady
9. Pitcher.

Gets a high OBP guy #2, one of our best hitters #2, keeps a "stud" #3, our franchise player #4, protected by a power guy #5, Small ball at the bottom.

And it preserves L-R balance: S, S, L, R, L, S, R, R, P

too bad there's 119 million reasons Willie won't do it.

Any lineup that puts Pornstache higher than 8 is moot.

Getting close to that magical .320 for Hire.

Where are the haters now?

It's not about what LoDuca's doing and how many runs we score.
It's about the fact that other players are better suited to hit second and we COULD score MORE with a different lineup.

If LoDuca magically leads us in OBP, SLG, and speed, then I'll be on the LoDuca for #2 hitter bandwagon.

But I'm sticking by my preseason statements.

His production doesn't disprove the argument that he shouldn't hit number two. It just means "damn this lineup is impressive that we can lead the NL in runs without using our best lineup"

Why you continue to bump this thread is beyond me.

Did you see what I said?

Quote:

I will continue to bash LoDuca until he gets on base more. If he has to hit .320 to do it, fine. But freaking do it then.

Have I bashed Paulie lately? I'm happy that he has a .362 OBP, and that's mostly due to him hitting close to .320 right now. Isn't that what I freaking said? If he has to hit .320 to have a high OBP, do it then. He did, I'm happy.

Let's see where he is at the end of the season.

LoDuca is the perfect #2 hitter except for his speed, which doesnt matter all that much. he hits the other way, gets Reyes over and even in A LOT in the first inning, and he takes lots of pitches for Reyes to run. If you dont think Reyes would have less runs with someone else batting 2 you are blind. not to mention, LoDuca LEADS this team in batting average, and his OBP is very good considering he often SACRIFICES himself to move runners over. his OBP would be well over .380 if he didnt make outs to help the team.

You bashed Duke through-out the first half of the season EVERY SINGLE DAY. You made Staind look like Duke's third lover when comparing his remarks to yours. I don't believe what i just read. astonished would be putting it gently.
